Long-distance LARPing is an ERASMUS+ funded artistic research project developed by Nerdlab and Sickhouse. Our primary question is how we can build physical and digital spaces that foster connection and self-expression and where agency remains in the hands of the participants.

We draw inspiration from live-action role-playing games (LARPs). Our goal is to synthesise LARP design practices into a methodology for youth workers, social workers, artists and experience designers to enrich their practices and provide more creative spaces for the groups they work with.

Long Distant Larp

Something has been awaken in the cinema.
From the depths of dusty film cans, late-night television broadcast, forgotten drive-ins and questionable basements… the monsters are returning, one by one.

is a cinematic ritual devoted to the glorious age of monsters, mostly from before 1970, and occasionally after, if the creature insists.

Every Monday night we summon all vampires, mutants, swamp creatures, radioactive nightmares, gothic specters, and all the beautiful horrors that crawled out of the golden age of monster movies.

Before the screening begins, we enter a one-minute meditation guided by the sacred mantra of

to properly align mind, body and monster spirit. Then the lights go down.

Grab a drink. Take a seat. Eyes wide open.

Come dressed as a monster and enter the movie for free!
And if you want to join a Signal chat where to talk about old gems and cult films,

A scientist's experiment to cure hunger creates a giant spider that escapes from an isolated desert laboratory and wreaks havoc on the local inhabitants.

Monster Monday Movie Mash

is our monthly meet-up for playful makers, programmers, enthusiasts, producers, artists, designers, curators, and all people interested in game making. At Colliders, we brainstorm, present our progress, give feedback, enjoy creations and, of course, we play!

Colliders purpose is to develop a

around indie/art house game makers and playful artists. With Colliders, we want to support each other and create more opportunities for collaborations and exchange.

________________________________________________________________________

Arcade games are simple yet adictive. You always want to play one more time. Again and again. They gather people in the queue, willing to beat the highscore. We love those kind of games, and we would like to see what kind of arcade games you can make. For the upcoming Colliders in

Why circular? Because we are not looking for any kind of arcade games, but games that can be played in a ventilator. Yes, you heard right. For the Overkill we will be exhibiting

and we would love to have some games from our community available to play. If you have never made a game for a ventilator, don’t wory, me neither. That is why we will have one ofthe developers behind this experimental open-source game console, telling us how to make games for it.

In this presentation Alejandro will guide us through the process of developing games for Ventilastation, an open source electromechanical game console with an odd display, built for creating and playing circular video games.
⚠️ Recommended to bring your own laptop or bring someone with one ⚠️

Two no-code tools for game development: CellSpace and JGame AI

The creator of CellSpace and JGame AI will tell us more about the tools. CellSpace uses a cellular automata like system with which you can define a game by just entering cellular automata transformation rules. JGame AI is a graphical development environment in which you can create a game gamemaker-style, but where you define game entities and level map generators in plain English, which are then compiled into code using AI. This enables full control over the game design without having to write or understand code.

To hell with boring-ass brainrot scrolling on Instagram, let’s handcode our own sites again, filled with cool pictures, funny texts and cute games. Did you know how easy it is??

Every month, a group of curious people gets together to work on our personal sites with HTML, CSS and Javascript. When we get stuck on difficult coding challenges, we have each other to help out. At the end of the night, we’ll show off our pages, and join each other’s ‘webrings’.

Neocities: Coding Night - Build your own digital garden

is not just cinema, is a curated film experience focused on cult, alternative, and unconventional cinema.

It begins with an immersive pre-screening ritual (expect some crafting, soft role-playing or playful dynamic around the movie of the night), followed by the screening, and closing by sharing your impressions post-film.

This program is challenging and unique. Each screening is designed to be a special experience, beginning at the moment you sit down in our vintage cinema chairs. You are invited to react, interact, discuss, scream, laugh and embrace the shared discovery of strange films.

Cinema Obscura runs throughout the year with a monthly screening. Some films will be announced, some will remain a mystery… come watch the unexpected!

Side program starts at 19:30 - Screening begins at 20:30.

For MuseumNacht Sickhouse celebrates collective remixing. A group of artists connected by their love for drawing are taking over the exhibition space and working together in a spontaneous process, remixing their work to paint some of our walls. MuseumNacht will be the time to discover the result and join the mix in a jam-like session where drawing and music join together. During the night you are invited to join in a collective drawing following the sounds of the music.

HACKFEST

is a film that brings to light the interwoven experiences of gender, sexuality and race in the coloured community of the Western Cape, in South Africa. After the film screening there will be a Q&A with the maker, Prof. Siona O’Connell, hosted by artist Désiré De Lacy and cultural producer Niels F. Rodenburg.

Set in an environment shaped by Dutch colonial occupation, the film shows how the coloured community is already on the margins of society, and how queerness adds to it. The documentary by Professor Siona O’Connell from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, offers a specific look at Miss Gay Western Cape, a pageant for largely queer and coloured men.

The screening will take about 1.5 hours. The Q&A will be hosted in English.
