Sickhoes #6 imitate - manipulate - simulate

June 28–01 September, 2024

  • VIDEO

For the sixth iteration of the video program in Sickhoes, Sickhouse selected 3 new videos inspired by the work of artist Philip Vermeulen, exhibited in the museum. Inspired by his research about perception, this new iteration is an audio visual wandering in between digital and physical non tangible spaces. The videos presented take us into liminal worlds, that could exist in our physical space, that could be seen when in a certain state of focus, that could be felt when carefully listening.

Presenting :

Paranon - Zeno van den Broek
Video, 2018, 00:15:44. In collection: LIMA

Paranon revolves around the idea of juxtapositioning fundamental elements of sound and image. Van den Broek is fascinated by how the interference that occurs in image and sound manipulate our senses and perception of spatiality in the flat surface of the screen in relation to the sound waves that occupy the space.

There is no spoon
- Natalie Maximova with a soundscape by Craig WellsCGI modelling and animation created in game engine, 2021, 00:16:00

This video is a journey through liminal spaces within a computer-generated reality, similar to a video game but without any specific tasks or goals. The world was built as an assemblage of soulless structures without an indication of time or context.
