 is Sickhouse’s platform dedicated to film—a space where we celebrate everything from cult classics and misunderstood gems to rare finds and rather commercial titles. Each month, we host a curated screening that visually explores Sickhouse’s annual research theme.

Sick Cinema: Return to Oz

Dutch artists Vincent Schoutsen and Wouter van Veldhoven are joining forces with French artists Leon Denise and Emilie Breslavetz from 

, to develop and build a playful arcade machine. Reflecting on the theme "Alternative control and Resistance" the artists are working together in Enschede to give shape to a robot arcade! The creature will be later installed at the new location of Sickhouse!

Developing their concept together for a few months, they are in Enschede this week to finally give a shape to the "

The robot is emitting a slight signal, which tells us that it is "alive", you are invited to find a way to interact with it looking for emotional reactions. The interaction is about human machine interaction, emotional transfer, AI consciousness, consent...

The Arcade will be officially inaugurated in September, during the re-opening of Sickhouse in its new location! This project is a pilot edition and hopefully we will be able to commission several alternative arcades in the years to come.

PLAYTEST Sickhouse's New Arcade

This year, STR returns to its origins. Each session we’ll feature a guest, an artist working with textiles, different technologies and playful approaches, who will talk about their process and invite us to try different techniques.

Iulia Paraipan, originally from Romania now living in Enschede, works with punch needles in large format to achieve her own representations of nature, ancestral symbols and scenes that reflect our unconscious. Iulia will tell us about her inspirations, her tools and will invite us to work on a collaborative piece during the session.
